The wool for weaving came from the families flock. Each Bedouin family owned their own sheeps. To dye the wool the Women usually collected plants and leaves. If the color she wanted was not available she would go to the Friday market and purchase it. In those times a women had to have a man accompanying her in all situation. The life of Bedouin women was one of hard work. Traditionally in the Bedouin families the women were in charge of weaving, pitch tents, cooking, and taking care of the children. The men were in charge of providing for the family. In this time and till now the Middle East stayed a practical society. Were men controlled the household.
The typical life of Bedouin women was routine and simple. At the age of five to seven the female children will start learning their daily duties. One of them was weaving Sadu. Important and very crucial to the Bedouin life style, Sadu was significantly stressed to young female children. Countless hours of learning and sweat was a normal day in the life of a ten year old female Bedouin child. At the age of seventeen a Bedouin women will have an arranged marriage. Then go on with her routine lifestyle and chores. |
